The Client

When we began working with the Coalition for Green Capital (CGC) in 2021, they were a nonprofit organization advocating for Congress to establish a national green bank. Green banks offer innovative financing solutions to accelerate the transition to clean energy in communities across the United States. Since then, CGC has evolved into a nonprofit entity that not only advocates for green banks but also makes direct and indirect investments in clean energy projects while working to establish a green bank in all 50 states.

The Challenge

For more than a decade, CGC had advocated — unsuccessfully — for Congress to establish a national green bank. In 2021, with a new presidential administration and a renewed opportunity for climate legislation on Capitol Hill, CGC faced the challenge of convincing both the White House and legislators that their policy idea deserved to be included in a climate package. CGC not only wanted the national green bank to become a reality, they wanted to lead it. To accomplish this, they would need to position themselves to win a highly competitive grant process.

The Solution

Our team collaborated closely with CGC’s CEO and senior leadership to craft and implement a communications strategy designed to achieve multiple objectives: advancing the green bank policy proposal, educating key audiences about how a national green bank would operate, and positioning CGC to secure a multi-billion-dollar award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Together with CGC’s internal team and lobbying partners, we successfully met these goals, as reflected in the impactful media coverage highlighted below.
