POLITICO: Solar sector launches new PAC as clean energy groups sharpen their political attacks

The solar industry is taking new steps to promote its allies in races across the country and counter the onslaught of actions from the federal government that are slowing its rapid growth.

The new PAC’s approach differs from the effort from renewable industry executives to oppose their political foes, like the Invest in America’s Future super PAC, which is spending $500,000 on ads hitting Rhode Island’s Democratic Gov. Dan McKee, as POLITICO reported last week.

Chris Moyer, the president of the clean energy-focused Echo Communications, who is not affiliated with the ITC PAC, said the group is “kind of playing the bad cop to the trade associations’ good cop.”

“What we haven’t had is this brass tacks political arm. Everybody has a role to play in the ecosystem,” Moyer said. “What Invest in Tomorrow is doing is new for clean energy, but it’s not new for industries trying to get better policy outcomes.”
